In the National Association of Home Builders’ recent “What Home Buyers Really Want” survey, when asked about the desirability of an exercise room in the home, almost half of recent and prospective buyers—47% of the survey base —said that an exercise room was either essential or desirable. The NAHB attributes the acceleration in the already-rising popularity of an exercise room to the COVID-19 pandemic; 27% of buyers wanted one in 2003.

In terms of size, the same study found that 75% of the buyers who want an exercise room are looking for it to be 100 square feet or larger (i.e., at least a 10×10 room).
